Citadel of Jaca

A ditch which is home to some deer surrounds the Citadel of Jaca, known until the 19th century as the Castle of San Pedro.

Its pentagonal shape has a defensive bastion on each corner, ordered to be built by Phillip II to defend the Way of St. James from heretics. However, its only military function was delayed until the War of Independence in the 19th century, and it remained occupied by the French.

It is the only Spanish fortress of this style that remains intact. It currently houses the Museum of Military Miniatures.
